Curro Mahikeng learner competes at SASA National Athletics Championships

National school athletics action is underway, and Curro Mahikeng learner Kutlwano Rampagane is competing among South Africa’s leading school athletes at the Schools Athletics South Africa (SASA) National Championships.

The Grade 12 learner will compete in the triple jump, long jump and relay events during the championship programme.

National stage for school athletics

The SASA National Championships bring together athletes who progress through district and provincial competitions across the country. Reaching this level reflects consistent performance throughout the athletics season against strong regional opposition.

Kutlwano’s inclusion across both jumping and relay events points to broad athletic ability and conditioning.

Triple jump and long jump demand speed, balance, rhythm and technical control. In triple jump particularly, athletes must maintain momentum through the hop, step and jump phases while managing precision and body control.

Contributing across multiple events

Relay participation adds another dimension to national competition, with athletes required to perform within a team structure where timing exchanges can shape race outcomes.

Competing across several disciplines also requires careful preparation across training and recovery cycles during the championship period.

Curro Mahikeng recognised Kutlwano’s achievement, saying her ‘hard work and passion inspire us all’.

The school also acknowledged the contribution of coach Koketso Mogapi, known as Coach Zee, for supporting Kutlwano’s athletics development.
