Curro Hillcrest learner selected for KZN teams and UK trials

Grade 6 learner Blake Fish from Curro Hillcrest Christian Academy continues to make waves in both soccer and rugby. He has represented KwaZulu-Natal in provincial squads, earned individual honours, and is preparing for upcoming football trials with Charlton Athletic FC in the United Kingdom.

Rising through the KZN ranks

Blake’s recent selection for the U13 KwaZulu-Natal Invitational Primary School Soccer Association (KZNIPSSA) Impi team highlights his growing presence in provincial soccer. He was named vice-captain of the 2025 team, which finished 10th overall at the Bill Stewart Nationals, a national tournament showcasing top provincial players.

Provincial recognition and individual honours

His performance earned him a second call-up for the U13 KZNIPSSA 2026 squad after strong play at the Ian McLeod Tournament and trials, where he was recognised as Defender of the Tournament. The KZNIPSSA programme, founded in 2011, develops young soccer players through province-wide tournaments and exposure beyond local leagues.

An international opportunity ahead

Blake will attend trials with Charlton Athletic FC in the United Kingdom this October – a rare opportunity for a young South African player to experience football training abroad.

In addition to his soccer achievements, Blake also excelled in rugby, earning selection for the KZN Sharks B team, where he again served as vice-captain. The team travelled to Klerksdorp for an Inter-Provincial Tournament, which gathers top provincial squads for competitive age-group play. During the event, Blake was one of 42 players chosen to tour Italy in December. His family has, however, confirmed that he will remain committed to his upcoming soccer tour instead.

Curro extends its congratulations to Blake and wishes him every success as he continues to pursue his sporting ambitions both locally and abroad.
