Curro Delft learners set for Italy in Interamnia World Cup 2025
02 July 2025Ten learners from Curro Delft are packing their passports for an international handball experience in Italy. They will represent Thunderbolts Academy in the 52nd edition of the Interamnia World Cup, the world’s most international youth handball tournament, hosted annually in Teramo.
Global tournament, local talent
The Interamnia World Cup draws teams from over 100 nations to compete in Italy’s Abruzzo region. From 7 to 13 July 2025, learners will take part in matches held across various cities, playing against international youth teams in a tournament known for its mix of sport, culture, and camaraderie.
This year’s team includes Zintle Manavbela, Sikho Manquina, Buhle Kilawushe, Abongwe Mgwinya, Buhle Maseti, Tatum Smuts, Masithembu Babayi, Diphithelelo Motaung, Takunda Madyangove, and Hlumelo Kula. All but one are in Grade 12.

What awaits in Italy
The learners depart from South Africa on 5 July and return from Rome on 15 July. Local transport in Italy – including shuttles and stadium transfers – will be handled by the event organisers. They will stay in a boarding school in Teramo: Piccola Casa Santa Maria Aprutina.
In addition to their matches, the learners will take part in several cultural and recreational activities. Planned outings include:
- Guided day tours to Rome, Napoli and San Paolo
- A sightseeing tour through Teramo
- A visit to the historic cathedral
- A cultural exchange day and pageant event (‘Mr and Miss Interamnia’)
- Swimming and ice cream outings to beat the summer heat
Fixtures will be released on 3 July.
About the Interamnia World Cup
The Interamnia World Cup has hosted more than 9,000 teams from 117 countries and is supported by the Italian Olympic Committee, as well as being recognised by the International Handball Federation. It’s considered a launchpad for many young athletes who go on to join national and professional teams.
Alongside the sport, the event offers an international celebration of youth, featuring a grand inaugural parade, side events, and a vibrant city atmosphere.
