Curro Bankenveld learners experience American academic tour
06 November 2024Five Curro Bankenveld High School learners recently had the unique opportunity to participate in the Academic Achievers Tour to the United States, organised by Travel and Sport. This tour is available annually to learners who maintain an academic average of over 70%, offering them a chance to explore some of the most renowned academic institutions in America.
A tour of world-class universities
The tour included visits to prestigious universities like Yale, MIT, Harvard, and Princeton. This exposure provided learners with an insight into the academic opportunities available at these esteemed institutions, potentially inspiring future educational paths.

Iconic city experiences and excursions
Starting their journey in Boston, the group enjoyed their first evening at the lively Quincy Market. In New York, they experienced the excitement of Times Square and dined at the Hard Rock Cafe. They visited the Statue of Liberty, symbolizing enlightenment, and paid their respects at the 9/11 Memorial. The tour wrapped up in Washington, D.C., where they explored the Capitol, White House, and Lincoln Memorial.

Cultural highlights and local flavours
Learners embraced American culture with visits to popular fast-food spots like Panda Express, Taco Bell, Chipotle, and Dunkin' Donuts — a novelty previously known only through social media. Shopping sprees at Costco, Walmart, Sephora, and Macy's added excitement, giving them a taste of both budget-friendly and luxury retail experiences.

Memorable performances
A special highlight was attending The Blue Man Group in Boston and the Broadway show Aladdin in New York — both unforgettable experiences that brought added excitement to the trip.
Curro Bankenveld thanks Travel and Sport for organising another enriching overseas tour, providing learners with insights, inspiration, and lasting memories.
