Aidan Erasmus shatters records and wins double

Aidan Erasmus, a standout athlete from Curro Mossel Bay, has made history at the 2025 SASA Athletics Championships for High Schools (LSEN) in Bloemfontein recently. He claimed two gold medals and broke national records in both events. His remarkable performances have earned him the prestigious title of LSEN Field Victor Ludorum 2025, the highest honour for a field athlete at the national level.

Double national champion

At the championships, Aidan represented the Western Cape in the Boys U17 category and triumphed in two events:

  • Shot Put: Aidan claimed gold with a new South African record of 15.03 meters.
  • Discus Throw: He took home another gold medal, setting a new national record with a throw of 39.92 meters.

These outstanding performances solidified his place as one of the top young athletes in South Africa.

 

Celebrating excellence in athletics

The LSEN Championship caters to athletes with diverse educational needs and are part of the National School Sports Championships Autumn Games. The event was co-hosted by the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, providing an inclusive platform for athletes across the country.

Aidan’s success is a proud moment for the school, and his achievements inspire fellow learners and athletes across South Africa.
