Aidan Erasmus sets new SA records at LSEN 2025
13 October 2025Aidan Erasmus, a U/17 athlete from Curro Mossel Bay, once again proved his athletic prowess this year by delivering gold in both shot put and discus at the LSEN SA Championships in Bloemfontein. He registered national records of 15.03 m in shot put and 39.92 m in discus, earning the Victor Ludorum title for field events.

From district to national dominance
Earlier in 2025, at the Eden LSEN competition, Aidan claimed gold in shot put and discus, setting new district records of 13.46 m and 41 m respectively. While his later throw of 39.92 m at the national championships was slightly shorter, it was achieved under official South African Schools Athletics (SASA) conditions, qualifying it as the official national record.
At the Western Cape Championships, he represented Eden and secured first place in both events, continuing his run of consistent top-level performances.

Personal resolve and respect
Aidan competes while managing a hearing disability that affects his balance, a challenge that makes his achievements even more commendable. He is known for his humility, leadership, and sportsmanship, often sharing equipment and encouragement with his peers. Academically, Aidan ranks among the top five learners at his school, and his peers recognised him in their Matric Creed for his strong character and positive influence.

Earlier recognition and momentum
Earlier this year, his double gold and record-breaking results at the LSEN Championships were featured in national reports. His achievements continue to inspire learners and athletes across South Africa, highlighting Curro Mossel Bay’s growing presence in national athletics.
