Curro Somerset West marks 10 years with alumni reunion and celebrations
13 March 2026A week of events, performances and community gatherings marked the 10th anniversary of Curro Somerset West, bringing together learners, parents, alumni and staff to celebrate a decade of growth at the campus.
The milestone celebrations highlighted the school’s culture, often referred to within the community as the ‘Jaguar Tribe’, and reflected on the journey since the campus opened ten years ago.

Anniversary week begins with birthday assembly
The celebrations opened with a birthday assembly attended by learners, parents and invited guests connected to the school’s development.
Among those present were Mari Lategan, Curro Deputy CEO, Shaun McMurtry, Curro Business Manager, as well as former executive heads Phil Snyman and Graeme Wait, who played key roles in the campus’s early years.
‘The week began with a birthday assembly, highlighted by a special performance from alumni singer Phoebe,’ the school said.
An alumni gathering formed another highlight of the anniversary week, welcoming former learners from the 2019 to 2025 matric groups.
Several former teachers also attended, creating an opportunity for past learners and staff to reconnect and reflect on their time at the school.

Learners take part in challenges and creative projects
Learners participated in a series of activities designed to involve the entire campus.
These included 10-minute academic challenges, which tested quick thinking and subject knowledge, as well as a time capsule project where learners and staff recorded messages and reflections for future generations.
A birthday mural also took shape during the week. Every learner and staff member added a fingerprint or track mark, creating a collective artwork representing the school community.

Race Day Roar and festival concert energise celebrations
The programme also featured a lively Race Day Roar, where learners took part in soapbox-style races and sport activities around the campus.
Later in the week, the school hosted a Family Festival Concert on the lawns. The event included performances by learners, food trucks and entertainment for families and alumni.
‘The celebrations concluded on Friday with a whole-school lap around the campus as part of our 100 Club programme,’ the school said.
Over its first decade, Curro Somerset West has developed academic, cultural and sporting programmes while building a strong community identity. The anniversary celebrations provided an opportunity to reflect on that journey and look ahead to the years to come.
