Young author discovered at Curro Academy Sandown
11 March 2024Melokuhle Ngcamu just recently joined Curro Academy Sandown – and how inspired were we to realise that this Grade 10 learner is already a published author!
During the lockdown in 2020, Melokuhle found that she had much time on her hands. However, she did not idly let the time pass by. Instead, she put her thoughts down on paper in her personal diary, and later turned that diary into a book called A Mind of a Twelve-Year-Old. 'My mother had bought me and my sister diaries, so I decided to write down all my thoughts. I wrote about my experiences as a child,' she shared with the South Coast Sun. The book has lessons for young and old. She encourages adults to pay attention to their children's thoughts and ideas, and inspires young people to be obedient and love education.
Her mother, Boni, was initially not keen on the idea of publishing such a personal diary as a book. 'After a while,' said Boni, 'I took the manuscript to a publisher friend of mine and she told me that the manuscript is complete. Only then did we go ahead and publish.'
Boni is nearly finished with her next book – another memoir of sorts – to be published in the next few months. Let's watch this space!
