Young actress from Curro Krugersdorp selected to participate in World Monologue Games’ Tigers

Curro Krugersdorp’s young actress Danae Conradie has been selected for the World Monologue Games’ Tigers (under 12 years) regional finals – one of 27 events featuring the best international competitors.

It’s been a challenging 18 months for the arts but the global pandemic hasn’t affected Danae’s love of performing. This young actress from Krugersdorp achieved fourth place in the World Monologue Games – Tigers category – in 2020 and has entered again this year, hoping to do even better.

Danae recently received the good news that she had again made the event’s regional finals along with the best of the best in Africa.

"I’m so excited that I get to compete for my country and represent my school, doing what I love. It’s really fantastic to be part of this amazing event.”

World Monologue Games was set up last year by Aussie Pete Malicki, who wanted a lockdown-friendly platform for performers. “It’s definitely special to have our second season in an Olympics year. We have the best performers from 51 countries all getting together to show the world what they’re made of. I’m not sure where else you can see such a diverse range of actors all in the same place,” Malicki said.

Danae has been selected for her monologue from A Little Princess by Frances Burnett. It is about a poor orphan finding money in the street to buy some bread. “This is such a great piece. It portrays a number of emotions, which makes it more challenging to perform, but also more rewarding.”

The Africa Regional Finals – Tigers category – will be live-streamed on YouTube on Friday September 17, with 12 little ones competing for a place in the global finals where they stand a chance to win their share of $5 000 cash.
