Curro Durbanville under 12 chess player ranked 4th in SA

South African Junior Closed Chess Championship (SAJCCC) – During the weekend of 10 and 11 July, the SAJCCC (Stage 2) was hosted. Five talented chess players from the Primary School phase at Curro Durbanville, namely Loghan Stander (Gr. 4), Mila Snyman (Gr. 4), Hannah van Heerden (Gr. 5), Emlyn Wilson (Gr. 3) and Caitlyn Olkers (Gr. 7) made it through to the 3rd and final stage which was scheduled for the weekend of 17 and 18 July.

Hannah van Heerden did us proud by qualifying and therefore participating in this championship during the June school holidays. This was an online event and as part of the fair play rules, she had to play in the presence of two cameras via the Zoom platform. Hannah proved her skills against top players, and we are extremely proud of her for achieving fourth place in South Africa in the under 12 division for girls!

Curro Durbanville will be looking forward to many more achievements in Hannah’s chess career.
