Curro Create’s first Associate Artist-mentor for Theatre

Stian Bam is without doubt one of the best actors of his generation; his trophy cabinet holds awards ranging from a Fleur du Cap for most-promising student (he holds a BDram degree from Stellenbosch University) to several best-actor Kannas for his work at the KKNK. He also holds many Fiësta awards, Woordtrofees and ATKV Media Awards, as well as a  Silwerskerm Film Festival 2019 award for his blistering performance in Die Verhaal van Racheltjie de Beer.

He has been seen in a slew of highly regarded films, including My Father’s War, and on television he has played characters who run the gamut from adored to despised.  But it is on stage where his talent truly shines: from the disillusioned oldest son in Festen, to the dying general in Asem, and the very human farmer/father in Valsrivier.

Over the past few years, Stian has returned to his alma mater to help train the next generation of students.

Now Curro Create has again shifted the boundaries of school-based creativity and we have appointed this brilliant thespian as our first Associate Artist-mentor for Acting.  What this means is that Stian will be involved in every acting platform within Curro Create.  Not only will he act as mentor-adjudicator for CAS, our #Straight2Camera Monologue Festival, and our annual Youth Theatre Festival, but he will also present masterclasses at our national arts hubs and will help our matric actors to polish their final performance pieces for examination; meaning that our learners will have full access to this rare and inspiring master of the craft.

To top this all off, two of our most-gifted young actors will be chosen to do a scene with Stian as part of our KrypCon, which will take place in Cape Town and Pretoria.

We welcome Stian to Curro Create, and we look forward to learning from, and with him.
