St Dominics Newcastle learners to represent South Africa in Tunisia
03 March 2025Two St Dominics Newcastle learners, Hamzah Ismail and Vibhav Ramdas, are set to take their passion for science to an international stage. They have been selected to represent South Africa at the prestigious International Science Expo in Tunisia this March after excelling in the Eskom Science Expo.
A platform for innovation
The Eskom Science Expo challenges learners to think beyond the classroom, encouraging them to explore scientific concepts with creativity and critical thinking. St Dom’s has long embraced this initiative, providing young scientists with opportunities to develop their ideas and present them on competitive platforms.
‘Participation in the science expo has opened the door to brilliant opportunities otherwise not readily available to our learners, and St Dominics is proud to present two of our learners who have kicked this door wide open,’ said Lauriksha Dhewlall.
For Hamzah and Vibhav, this journey has been one of discovery. Their selection for the International Science Expo is the result of months of research, problem-solving, and refinement of their projects. The event will in Tunisia will bring together top young scientists from around the world and offer them a platform to showcase their work and engage with global experts.

Pushing boundaries
Science is about asking the right questions, and Hamzah and Vibhav have done just that. As they prepare for the international stage, the school and broader community celebrate their achievements and look forward to seeing them represent both St Dominics and South Africa with pride.
‘We are beyond proud of our budding, brilliant young scientists, and we wish them everything of the very best as they embark on this next leg in their scientific journeys,’ said Lauriksha.
