Curro Savanna City showcases learner innovation at Tech Day

Tech Day 2025 at Curro Savanna City gave learners across the school an opportunity to demonstrate how Coding, Robotics, and IoT are shaping their understanding of technology. The event drew strong interest from learners, teachers, industry partners, and higher education institutions, offering a clear view of how young people are building the skills needed for future careers.

Learner projects inspired by IoT in Robotics

Grade 7–9 learners presented a range of Coding and Robotics projects that explored automation and problem-solving in creative ways. Grade 10 learners showcased app development projects designed to address real-world challenges.

The theme, ‘IoT in Robotics’, guided every project showcased on the day. Learners applied Internet of Things (IoT) principles in models such as Wi-Fi-controlled cars, a Wi-Fi-based anti-missile system, a smart mine shaft, a smart train, and a smart city. These projects reflected the steady integration of engineering and digital skills in the classroom.

Industry and academic partners share expertise

Partners such as Komatsu, Belgium IT College, and Eduvos played an important role in strengthening the learning experience.

Engineers and representatives from Komatsu spoke about the value of Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Information Technology, and Coding & Robotics for career pathways in engineering. Their demonstrations using simulators, virtual-reality machines, and drones offered learners a practical view of how technology drives modern engineering.

Komatsu also announced bursaries for Grade 12 learners interested in engineering-related studies. This gave many learners the confidence to consider post-school opportunities in STEM fields.

Belgium IT College delivered a presentation on the importance of studying IT and explained their application process. Eduvos shared insights on Robotics Engineering and encouraged learners to explore further studies in this field.

Recognising leadership and collaboration

The success of the day was made possible through teamwork across the school community. Executive Head Lakidu Nguda thanked all participants, sponsors, and staff for their support and highlighted his commitment to continued investment in Coding and Robotics at Curro Savanna City.

Special acknowledgement went to Coding and Robotics teacher Lerato Tshosane and Curriculum Lead for IT and Coding & Robotics (Head Office) Ntebaleng Thina for guiding learners through the full Project-Based Learning process.
