Curro Krugersdorp Learners Represent at International Tricolour Games
14 August 2023Two learners from Curro Krugersdorp’s high school recently represented South Africa at the 7th International Tricolour Games held in Reggio Emilia, Italy, late last month. Jenna Westermeyer participated in the fiercely contested 2 km road race, and Kutlwano Nkabinde took on swimmers in the under 19 and under 15 swimming categories.
Kutlwano Nkabinde showcased his skill and talent in the pool as part of the SA swimming team. He competed against swimmers from across the world in the U19 races despite being U15 and showed great talent and relentlessness by finishing in these positions in the following races:
- 50m Butterfly: 29th out of 40 swimmers
- 50m Backstroke: 21st out of 26 swimmers
- 50m Freestyle: 28th of 45 swimmers
- 100m Freestyle: 21st out of 35 swimmers
The games are held once every four years and have brought together over 20 countries and saw the participation of more than 1 000 athletes competing across diverse disciplines. The event stands as a testament to the power of sports in fostering mutual understanding and friendship between nations.
This year’s games witnessed athletes from Gauteng making their mark at the competition with Curro’s stars among the best. In comparison to the previous edition in 2018, where Gauteng had 90 athletes competing, this year saw significant growth with 132 athletes representing both Gauteng and the nation as a whole.
