Woodhill College has a primary school in Pretorius Park, Pretoria East. We provide an excellent education to learners from Grade 1 to Grade 7. We limit our class sizes to make sure that learners get personal attention, and teaching takes place in English. You get an excellent education

We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our primary school learners to explore the learning material beyond just the textbook through research, experiments and assignments. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but it’s important to us that learners can use their intellectual abilities to make the material real to them in some way.

What happens in Grade 1 to Grade 7

Our foundation phase starts by helping Grade 1 adapt to the more formal learning that starts in this year. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:

• Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
• Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
• Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)

In the intermediate phase, the work becomes less tangible or real, and more abstract. To do this, learners start with project-based learning, which means they do research, assignments, and experiments to explore the material outside just the textbook.

Teaching takes place in English, and learners can choose Afrikaans, isiZulu and Sepedi as additional language options. They also have Robotics as a subject throughout school.

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Nearby primary and high IEB schools include Curro Hazeldean and Curro Online, which is a fully online school for learners who might strive in a home-based environment.

How big are the classes

We control the number of learners per class to be no more than 25, so that our teachers have the time and space to give personal attention to each learner, in exactly the places that they need. This is just one of the ways that we create an environment where your child will enjoy what they learn and love coming to school.

One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation in activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Activities such as drama and public speaking even give learners a boost in their education, because they help your child become confident in formulating their ideas and making their voice heard.
