The King's School Primary School

The King’s School Linbro Park in Sandton is a leading independent primary school that provides high-quality education to learners from Grade 1 to Grade 7. With modern classrooms and a holistic approach to education based on Christian values (ethics and morals), learners are acknowledged as individuals and are recognised for more than just academic achievements. As a Curro Select school, our enhanced curriculum provides learners with 21st-century skills and prepares them for the reality of a future-focused society.

Foundation phase: Grade 1 to Grade 3

In foundation phase we focus on teaching the basic skills, concepts and knowledge required for further learning. We offer a vibrant, invitational atmosphere where learners enjoy coming to school and where they acquire a love for learning that will sustain them throughout their school years. We also create opportunities for personal growth so that learners can become personally responsible and accountable for their actions in the intermediate phase. As part of our approach based on Christian values (ethics and morals), our foundation phase curriculum includes Bible Studies.

Intermediate phase: Grade 4 to Grade 7

In these grades, the emphasis is still on establishing basic foundations, but learners are led into more abstract thought and independent work. We prepare learners for high school by teaching them how to apply the 21st-century skills and concepts they have learned. We also promote creativity and critical thinking by encouraging learners to make their own choices within well-established boundaries. As a Curro Select school, learners from this phase onwards further use tablets in class in support of our enhanced curriculum.

We use tablets in class

Our learners use e-books on tablets in class rather than physical textbooks. Through an enhanced curriculum, as well as innovative technology and teaching methods, our teachers are able to provide learners with additional explanatory material and other creative, helpful resources in our modern classrooms.

We provide pastoral care

As part of our devotional beliefs, based on Christian values (ethics and morals), we have a team of teachers who provide pastoral care to learners. These grade-specific coordinators provide spiritual and emotional guidance to learners, and help them balance their interests in academics and additional activities.

The King’s School Linbro Park activities

Sports activities

As a Curro Select school, we believe that sport plays an important role in promoting friendship, team-awareness and self-confidence in addition to physical well-being. While healthy competition is encouraged, the enjoyment of the game is not compromised. These activities are generally included in the school fees, unless otherwise stated.

To support our learners’ individual interests outside academics, our sports teams are affiliated with various sports associations, such as the Edenvale Primary Schools Cricket Association which offers learners the opportunity to play in the KFC Mini-cricket League. Other associations include the Johannesburg Primary Schools Football Association (JPFSA), Independent Soccer Schools League (ISSL), and the South African Christian School’s Sports Association (SACSSA).

Cultural activities

Culture is one of the foundational pillars of developing a well-balanced learner and plays a great role in building community. Our learners have the opportunity to participate in a focused variety of cultural activities, regardless of their interests and abilities in sport or academics. Activities such as drama and debating help learners to develop self-confidence and the ability to present their ideas in front of a crowd.

Curro Create

We offer Curro Create programmes aimed at helping learners develop their creative talents to their full potential. Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents. Learners have the opportunity to participate in the annual Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival, wherein schools enter a one-act play in any genre and official language. The winning plays are chosen through a series of adjudications by world-class theatre-makers, who closely mentor learners throughout the process.

The King’s School Linbro Park history

Our school was founded in 1986 by Love Reaching Communities Church (then known as Waverley New Covenant). The church’s vision was to provide an opportunity for children to receive an education in a Christian-centred environment.

The school started as a preschool of 12 children and quickly grew to the flourishing school it is today. In January 2020, we joined the Curro group as a Curro Select school and have continued to grow.
