Academics

The King’s School Linbro Park in Sandton has a preschool phase that provides high-quality early childhood development for children from 4 years to Grade R. As a Curro Select school, our small class sizes and holistic approach to education based on Christian values (ethics and morals) allow our dedicated teachers to engage each child in our internally developed play-based curriculum and to build strong, caring relationships with each child.

What do we offer?

We provide a safe, nurturing environment where children are cared for and engaged in play-based developmental activities. As a Curro Select school, our classrooms are designed to encourage educational curiosity, while our playgrounds are equipped with play structures that inspire physical development through movement and play. With small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and teacher’s assistants that follow Christian values (ethics and morals), we provide a safe, home away from home.

How do we support your child’s development?

Our internally developed programme is designed with the Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs) in mind and aims to stimulate physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being through developmental activities and engaging play areas. ELDAs focus on early childhood development aspects such as gross motor development, fine motor development, social awareness, communication, spatial awareness and arts.

We encourage loose-parts play

The development of curiosity and imagination in early childhood is vitally important to the development of problem-solving skills and critical thinking later on. Therefore, we encourage playing with loose-parts and multi-purpose playthings, rather than single-purpose toys that don’t involve much imagination. Through loose-parts play, children use their natural curiosity to explore previously undiscovered fascinations such as stacking, rolling, sliding, fitting, colours, and more.

Our preschool includes Grade R

Grade R is the bridge between the concrete, tangible world of play and touch, and the world of symbols and numbers in Grade 1. That’s why we start providing preschool children with the emotional and intellectual foundation required to handle the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. Our programme still remains a play-based approach, which includes specialised educational programmes such as the Bazoo literacy programme and an introduction to Robotics through play with Duplo Lego.

In Grade R, we still maintain small class sizes so that children can grow comfortable with new types of learning material in a known and comfortable environment.

The King’s School Linbro Park activities

As a Curro Select school, we believe that participation in extramural activities plays an important role in early childhood development, and building self-confidence, and physical well-being. Our range of activities are offered by external tutors or coaches at an additional cost and take place on the school’s premises.

See which activities we offer on our fact sheet (see Downloads).

The King’s School Linbro Park history

Our school was founded in 1986 by Love Reaching Communities Church (then known as Waverley New Covenant). The church’s vision was to provide an opportunity for children to receive an education in a Christian-centred environment, in small class sizes.

The school started as a preschool of 12 learners and quickly grew to the flourishing school it is today. In January 2020, we became part of the Curro group as a Curro Select school and have continued our positive learner growth.
