Northriding College Primary School

Northriding College has a primary school phase in Northriding, Randburg, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade R to Grade 7. Our small class sizes, enhanced curriculum and international-standard facilities provide learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into self-confident individuals. As a Curro Select school, we also offer more specialised options to our learners, such as a STEAMD classroom, wellness centre, and leadership programmes.

Foundation phase: Grade R to Grade 3

With dedicated teachers and small class sizes, our foundation phase starts by providing the emotional and intellectual foundation required to handle formal learning. We then gradually develop learners’ skills and knowledge in basic areas such as language (comprehension, speaking, and listening), mathematics (counting and understanding numbers), and creative problem-solving in an environment where they enjoy coming to school. Learners further benefit from specialised offerings such as Robotics, and have isiZulu as an additional language option.

Intersen phase: Grade 4 to Grade 7

In these grades, learners are led into more abstract thought and independent work. Our small class sizes and dedicated teachers prepare them for high school by teaching them how to apply the 21st-century skills and concepts they have learned. We also promote creativity and critical thinking by encouraging children to make their own choices within well-established boundaries. Our enhanced curriculum includes specialised subjects such as Natural Sciences, and Economic and Management Sciences.

We use tablets in class

As part of our enhanced curriculum, learners from intermediate phase onwards use tablets in class (2-in-1 devices) for independent research and the downloading of additional notes and resources. Using tablets in class further helps to prepare them for the ever-changing realities of tertiary study and provides them with 21st-century skills needed for the workplace of the future.

See which subjects we offer on our fact sheet (see Downloads).

Our activities

School activities

As a Curro Select school, we believe that participation in activities plays an important role in promoting health, team-awareness, discipline and self-confidence in addition to physical and social well-being. As our school has a formidable sports and cultural performance record, we offer a wide variety of sports and cultural activities, including Curro Create programmes and life-enrichment periods. These activities are generally included in the school fees, unless otherwise stated.

Curro Create

We offer two Curro Create programmes aimed at helping learners develop their creative talents to their full potential. Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents. Learners can also participate in the annual Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival, wherein schools enter a one-act play in any genre and official language. The winning plays are chosen through a series of adjudications by world-class theatre-makers, who closely mentor learners throughout the process.

Community outreach

As a Curro Select school, we believe that outreach programmes are important not only to benefit the community, but also to develop appreciation and empathy in our learners. Therefore, we host various outreach programmes during the year and learners are actively involved in all areas of the project.
