Northern Academy has a primary school phase in Bushveld Lifestyle Estate, Polokwane, that offers high-quality education for learners from Grade R to Grade 7. As a Meridian school, we try to ensure affordable school fees without compromising our academic standards. Our controlled class sizes, dedicated teachers and focused sports and cultural activities, and an enhanced curriculum approach provide learners with 21st-century skills which would give them a head start in life.
As a Meridian school, our school is managed by Curro as part of a joint venture with Old Mutual and the Public Investment Corporation.
Foundation phase: Grade R to Grade 3
With dedicated teachers and affordable school fees, our foundation phase starts by providing the emotional and intellectual foundation required to handle the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. Our enhanced curriculum then gradually develops learners’ 21st-century skills and knowledge in basic areas such as language (comprehension, speaking and listening), mathematics (counting and understanding numbers) and creative problem-solving in an environment that promotes a love of life-long learning. As a Meridian school, learners even benefit from being introduced to Robotics through Duplo Lego, and having Afrikaans as an additional language option.
Intermediate phase: Grade 4 to Grade 7
In these grades, learners are taught to work with the learned material in an abstract manner. The nature of the content gradually builds from being tangible and real, to more intellectual and abstract. We also prepare our learners for the high school phase by teaching them to work more independently and how to apply the material (21st-century skills and concepts) they have learned, rather than just memorising it. Through our enhanced curriculum, we also promote creativity and critical thinking by encouraging learners to make their own choices within well-established boundaries. As a school managed by Curro, teaching takes place in English, but Afrikaans is offered as an additional language option.

Northern Academy activities
At Northern Academy, we believe that participation in sports and cultural activities plays an important role in promoting health, discipline, self-confidence and community. Therefore, our focused activities are designed to help learners discover their inherent talents, or broaden their exposure beyond their current reference framework, as part of our affordable school fees. Activities such as choir and art provide learners with a sense of self-awareness and discipline within teamwork, as well as the ability to project their voices and thoughts to an audience. Furthermore, our extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches. These are offered at an additional cost and generally take place on campus.
We have Curro Create programmes
We also offer Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) as part of the Curro Create initiative. CAS is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents.
