Northern Academy High School

Northern Academy high school is an independent Meridian school in Flora Park, Polokwane, that offers high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. With controlled class sizes, dedicated teachers and focused sports and cultural activities, we try to ensure affordable school fees without compromising our academic standards, 21st-century skills or our enhanced curriculum.

As a Meridian school, our school is managed by Curro as part of a joint venture with Old Mutual and the Public Investment Corporation.

Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9

At Northern Academy, our Grade 8 and Grade 9 learners are encouraged to develop innovative and critical thinking, while a problem-solving teaching approach is taken to subjects such as Mathematics. Our enhanced curriculum at affordable school fees guides learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity, with an emphasis on language development and 21st-century skills. Teaching takes pace in English, but Sepedi is offered as a Home Language option.

As a Meridian school, our learners receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9.

FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12

This phase prepares learners for the NSC examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, through our enhanced curriculum, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examinations-driven approach. Our learners are taught to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to be valued members of the community. Some of our specialised subjects to develop 21st-century skills include Dance Studies and Engineering and Graphic Design (EGD). Teaching takes pace in English, but Sepedi is offered as a Home Language option.

A wider subject choice

High-school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit. Northern Academy activities

Sports and cultural activities

As a Meridian school, we believe that participation in sports activities plays an important role in promoting health, discipline, self-confidence and community. Therefore, our focused activities are designed to help learners discover their inherent talents, or broaden their exposure beyond their current reference framework, as part of our affordable school fees. Some of our activities are aimed at boosting learners’ cognitive abilities, while others provide pure enjoyment.

We have Curro Create programmes

We also offer Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) as part of the Curro Create initiative. CAS is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, through which learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents.

We hope to build meaningful and personal connections with our members by sharing their success stories and staying updated on their lives through social media.

Alumni members enjoy several benefits, including exclusive offers for their children at selected schools. View Curro Alumni’s website for more information.
