Meridian Karino has a primary school in Tekwane, Mbombela (Nelspruit). We provide the excellent Curro education to learners from 5 years to Grade 7. We limit our class sizes to make sure learners get personal attention, and teaching takes place in English. We also have Siswati and Robotics as subjects, and a boarding school for learners from Grade 7.

As a Meridian school that forms part of the Curro school group, we are managed by Curro as part of a joint venture with Old Mutual and the Public Investment Corporation. Also, our goal is to give our learners a head start in reaching their dreams, whatever these might be.

You get the excellent Curro education

We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our primary school learners to explore the learning material beyond just the textbook through research, experiments and assignments. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but it’s important to us that learners can use their intellectual abilities to make the material real to them in some way. This gives learners a head start in their eventual workplace dreams, because they learn to take initiative and making connections between pieces of knowledge.

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Nearby preschools whose children can progress to us include Curro Nelspruit and Curro Academy Mbombela. We also have a boarding school that offers your child (in Grade 7) a safe, caring home away from home. Contact us for more information!

What happens in primary school

Our foundation phase starts by helping our youngest learners get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:

  • Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
  • Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
  • Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)

In the intermediate phase, the work becomes less tangible or real, and more abstract. To do this, learners start with project-based learning, which means they do research, assignments, and experiments to explore the material outside just the textbook.

Teaching takes place in English and we also have Siswati and Robotics as subjects.

Our values

Our school is built on a balance of values that allow learners to learn and grow into the best versions of themselves. These values include child-friendliness and creative thinking. We believe that a good education is the basis on which learners can grow to become strong leaders and responsible citizens who will make a positive change in their communities.

Activities your child can enjoy

One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Our focused variety of activities, such as dance and chess, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.
