Magic Beings Preschool

Academics

Magic Beings is an independent preschool in Johannesburg North, Gauteng, that provides high-quality early childhood development that incorporates the ELDAs for children from birth to 5 years. Our excellent staff-child ratios and small class sizes allow our dedicated teachers to engage each child in our internally developed play-based curriculum and to build strong, caring relationships with each child.

Our school is affiliated with Cooper College, an adjacent Curro Select school, which allows children to easily progress to primary school in a familiar environment and among their friends. Our campus is separate from Cooper College’s primary and high school buildings to improve access control and ensure the children’s safety on the playground.

What do we offer?

At Magic Beings, we lay the foundation for your child’s future social and academic life by incorporating play in stimulating, developmental activities such as creative movement and artistic expression. By involving parents in their child’s learning experience, we provide a holistic development programme at competitive school fees that stretches beyond the classroom. Our small class sizes are divided by age group, which allows our teachers to spend quality time with each child.

How does Magic Beings support my child’s development?

As a Curro Select school, our internally developed programme is designed with the Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs) in mind and aims to stimulate physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being through developmental activities and engaging play areas. ELDAs focus on aspects such as gross motor development, fine motor development, social awareness, communication, spatial awareness and arts.

We encourage loose-parts play

The development of curiosity and imagination in early childhood is vitally important to the development of problem-solving skills and critical thinking later on. Therefore, we encourage playing with loose-parts and multi-purpose playthings, rather than single-purpose toys that don’t involve much imagination. Through loose-parts play, children use their natural curiosity to explore previously undiscovered fascinations such as stacking, rolling, sliding, fitting, colours, and more.

We encourage parent involvement

At our preschool, we believe in involving parents. For moms who might need advice about feeding, weaning, teething, etc. our baby centre supervisor is always on hand, as part of our school fees. Our parents are involved when it comes to annual highlights such as Mother’s and Father’s Day mornings and Easter egg hunts. We also regularly send informative newsletters home to keep parents up to date on school activities, fundraisers and events.

Group 1

Group 1 accommodates children turning 1 in the particular year. In this group, our focus is on establishing a stable, healthy routine that includes age-appropriate stimulation, tactile play, music and storytelling. Daily progress charts monitor each child so that we are able to proactively manage their general well-being.

Groups 2 to 4

Group 2 accommodates children turning 2 that year, and progressing accordingly. Our dynamic routine follows weekly themes, which are complemented by exciting, age-appropriate activities that encourage the development of communication skills, fine and gross motor skills, and concentration.

Group 5

We have an exciting academic programme designed to integrate with the Cambridge Assessment International Education system, which is followed at our neighbouring Curro Select school, Cooper College. All activities are linked to an interesting theme and are age-appropriate.

Magic Beings activities

As a Curro Select school, we believe that participation in activities plays an important role in early childhood development. Our daily programme is packed with a variety of physical and cognitive activities as part of the school fees where children play while they learn. In doing so we promote social skills, self-confidence, and physical well-being. Each group has its own playground, with beautiful outdoor equipment and we offer a variety of activities for different age groups.
