Curro Vanderbijlpark is an independent school in Vanderbijlpark, that provides high-quality education to learners from Grade R to Grade 7. With small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and an enhanced curriculum, we empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge (such as using tablets in class) to grow into high-performing, self-confident individuals who are ready to become the leaders of the future.
Foundation phase: Grade R to Grade 3
As a Curro School, our foundation phase starts by providing the emotional and intellectual foundation required to handle the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. We then gradually develop learners’ 21st-century skills and knowledge in basic areas such as language (comprehension, speaking, and listening), mathematics (counting and understanding numbers), and creative problem-solving in an environment where they enjoy coming to school. Learners even benefit from being introduced and Robotics and having Sesotho as an additional language option from Grade 1. Learners may then choose to continue with Afrikaans or Sesotho when progressing to Grade 4.
Intermediate phase: Grade 4 to Grade 7
In these grades, learners are taught to work with the learned material in an abstract manner. The nature of the content gradually builds from being tangible and real, to more intellectual and abstract. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum provides learners with an inherent dedication to hard work and excellence as well as 21st-century skills through specialised subjects such as Information Technology and Robotics.
We use tablets in class
Learners from this phase onwards may use tablets in class rather than textbooks. By exposing learners at our Curro School to the daily use of technology, they are better prepared for the challenges of tertiary studies as well as the ever-changing workplace of the future. This is just one of the way in which learners in our small class sizes benefit from our enhanced curriculum.

Curro Vanderbijlpark activities
We believe that participation in sports and cultural activities plays an important role in developing a well-rounded learner and promoting friendship, team-awareness and self-confidence. Therefore, our wide range of activities are designed to help learners discover their inherent talents, or to broaden their exposure beyond their current reference framework. Our extramural activities are offered by private tutors/coaches and offered at an additional cost. Some of these activities are aimed at boosting learners’ cognitive abilities, while others provide pure enjoyment.
We offer two Curro Create programmes aimed at helping learners develop their creative talents to their full potential. Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents. Learners can also participate in the annual Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival, wherein schools enter a one-act play in any genre and official language. The winning plays are chosen through a series of adjudications by world-class theatre-makers, who closely mentor learners throughout the process.
At Curro Vanderbijlpark we believe that outreach programmes are important not only to benefit the community, but also to develop appreciation and empathy in our learners. Therefore, we host various ad hoc outreach programmes during the year and learners are actively involved in all areas of the project.
