Curro Salt Rock has a primary school in Ballito, Dolphin Coast. We provide the excellent Curro education to learners from Grade R to Grade 7. We limit our class sizes to make sure learners get personal attention, and they benefit from having isiZulu and Robotics as subjects. Our goal is to give our learners a head start in reaching their dreams, whatever these might be. We also have aftercare and school transport services, and we close earlier on Fridays so that you can enjoy your weekend.

You get the excellent Curro education

We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach helps learners use their intellectual abilities to explore the learning material in a manner that makes it real to them somehow. This happens through research, experiments and assignments along with regular teaching methods. We also balance academics with sports and cultural activities, and model positive values and strong morals.

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Should you and your family move from another area, we help you through the transfer process from start to finish to ensure a smooth transition.

What happens in Grade R to Grade 7

Our foundation phase starts by helping Grade R learners get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:

  • Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
  • Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
  • Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)

In the intermediate phase, the work becomes less tangible or real, and more abstract. To do this, learners start with project-based learning, which means they do research, assignments, and experiments to explore the material outside just the textbook.

Furthermore, we assist Grade R and Grade 1 learners with reading development and provide reading therapy for those who may need additional attention, and have academic support lesson in the afternoons in Mathematics and home language.

How big are the classes

We control the number of learners per class to be no more than 25, so that our teachers have the time and space to give personal attention to each learner, in exactly the places that they need. This is just one of the ways that we create an environment where your child will enjoy what they learn and love coming to school.

We use tablets in class

Technology has become a part of our daily lives and our learners are comfortable around it. By using technology in class, we meet learners where they are and give them a head start in the technology they will use in their eventual workplace. This is why learners from Grade 4 may choose to view textbooks on tablets or in hard copy.

Our values

Our school is built on a balance of values that allow learners to learn and grow into the best versions of themselves. We believe that a good education is the basis on which learners can grow to become strong leaders and responsible citizens who will make a positive change in their communities.

Our value system is based on four pillars:

  • Child-friendliness
  • Positive discipline
  • Christian values (ethics and morals)
  • Creative thinking

Activities your child can enjoy

Our focused variety of activities, such as cross-country, dancing, and robotics clubs, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area.
