Welcome to Curro Nelspruit Primary School

Select a category

Curro Nelspruit has a primary school in Sonheuwel (The Rest Nature Estate). We provide the excellent Curro education to learners from Grade R to Grade 7. We limit our class sizes to make sure learners get personal attention, and they benefit from having Siswati and Robotics as subjects. Our goal is to give our learners a head start in reaching their dreams, whatever these might be. We also have aftercare and school transport service, and we close earlier on Fridays so that you can enjoy your weekend.

You get the excellent Curro education

We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach helps learners use their intellectual abilities to explore the learning material in a manner that makes it real to them somehow. This happens through research, experiments and assignments along with regular teaching methods.

What happens in Grade R to Grade 7

Our foundation phase starts by helping Grade R learners get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:

  • Language (read, spell, understand, speak, listen)
  • Mathematics (count, understand numbers, addition, subtraction and multiplication)
  • Life skills (physical education, real-life experiences, problem-solving, creativity)

In the intermediate phase, the work becomes less tangible or real, and more abstract. To do this, learners start with project-based learning, which means they do research, assignments, and experiments to explore the material outside just the textbook.

Teaching takes place in English, and learners can choose Afrikaans and Siswati as additional language options. Learners are also introduced to Coding and Robotics.

As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Such a nearby school with a preschool phase is Curro Academy Mbombela, as well as Meridian Karino which has a primary school phase.

How big are the classes

We control the number of learners per class to be no more than 25, so that our teachers have the time and space to give personal attention to each learner, in exactly the places that they need. This is just one of the ways that we create an environment where your child will enjoy what they learn and love coming to school.

More than just the classroom

We offer several supportive programmes at no additional cost. These are aimed at providing learners with real-life skills and confidence, as well as providing additional academic support. These programmes include:

  • Real Life 4 Kids (Grade 5)
  • Extra classes in languages and Mathematics
  • Spelling bees

Activities your child can enjoy

One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation in activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Our focused variety of activities, such as choir, swimming and target shooting, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.
