Curro Jewel City High School

Academics

Curro Jewel City has a high school phase in the Maboneng Precinct, Johannesburg. Our modern, technology-rich school offers a unique approach to e-learning in class and accommodates learners from Grade 8 to Grade 10, with higher grades phasing in annually. As a Curro DigiEd school, we provide learners with 21st-century skills to prepare them for the fourth industrial revolution. To do this, we focus on a project-based learning programme that emphasises Mathematics, Science, Robotics and Coding. By offering the excellent Curro education in small class sizes with dedicated teachers, we aim to provide the most affordable school fees without compromising our high academic standards. Learners set their own pace within a framework, which prevents any learner from falling behind or having to wait for others.

What is the Curro DigiEd approach?

At our school, teaching takes place through innovative methods, such as incorporating videos and e-learning in class, with teachers and tutors providing one-on-one assistance as needed. By moving the teachers away from the whiteboard and into the classroom, learners can get more immediate and personal assistance to understand a particular concept before moving on. This also helps to ensure that we can keep our promise of affordable school fees.

With small class sizes and a great focus on 21st-century skills, we offer the excellent Curro education with advanced classes in Science, Mathematics, Robotics, and Coding. Learners are prepared to write the NSC (National Senior Certificate) examinations at the end of Grade 12, with a wider focus on world-readiness and preparing them for the fourth industrial revolution.

Longer school hours and little to no homework

Our longer school hours accommodate the schedules of working parents and further prepare learners for the long hours at the workplace. Learners in Grades 8 and 9 receive little to no homework, while learners from Grade 10 receive homework mostly to cement their understanding of the learning material. As part of our affordable school fees, learners can be dropped off early in the morning when parents are on their way to work and picked up well after office hours. This means that home time is family time.

Our learners gain 21st-century skills

As a Curro DigiEd school, we strongly emphasise independent thinking, collaboration, communication, and self-discipline by using interactive learning material and e-learning in class. Soft skills such as these are in high demand in the workplace, as the fourth industrial revolution is leading to a greater need of interpersonal skills. By helping learners develop these 21st-century skills through subjects such as Robotics, they are better prepared to excel not only in academic assessments, but in future-focused thinking and for the world beyond class.

A wider subject choice

Our learners can extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. Some lessons are presented during extended school hours to accommodate learners’ schedules. These subjects can be seen as an extension of the Curro education from which our learners already benefit and they still write the NSC exam at the end of Grade 12. Our activities

We believe that sport plays an important role in promoting friendship, team-awareness and self-confidence in addition to physical well-being. Our longer school hours don’t allow for extensive activity options, which is why our focused activities are non-competitive. These activities take place on a modern, multi-purpose court on top of our school building and are included in our school fees unless stated otherwise.
