Academics

Curro Heritage House is an independent high school in Morningside, Durban, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the IEB examinations at the end of Grade 12. With small class sizes, dedicated teachers and an enhanced curriculum, we empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into high-performing, self-confident individuals who are ready to become the leaders of the future.

Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9

At Curro Heritage House, our Grade 8 and Grade 9 learners are guided to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. Our teaching is aimed at developing innovative and critical thinking, while a problem-solving approach is used in subjects such as Mathematics. With dedicated teachers and competitive school fees, our enhanced curriculum places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking, learners gain 21st-century skills in subjects such as Technology. Our learners even use tablets in class in class during high school.

FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12

The FET phase prepares learners for the IEB examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, our enhanced curriculum emphasises a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examinations-driven approach. Our learners are taught to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives – all highly valued 21st-century skills. Furthermore, as a Curro School, 21st-century learning is implemented in subjects such as Information Technology and Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD), while learners benefit from having Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options.

What is meant by an enhanced curriculum?

As a Curro School, we are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. Therefore, our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows learners in our small class sizes to interact with the learned material or discover the core concepts themselves. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but we focus on ensuring that learners can use their intellectual abilities to discover the material and make it real to them in some way. This further provides them with 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, research and self-initiated proactive action.

A wider subject choice

High-school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit. Find out which subjects are available, and gain more information about this personalised learning experience.

School scholarships

At our school, we value dedication and excellence. Therefore, we sometimes offer internal scholarships to current learners who excel in particular areas, as determined by the terms and conditions of the particular scholarship.
