Curro Douglasdale Preschool

Academics

Curro Douglasdale has a preschool phase in Douglasdale, Johannesburg, that provides high-quality early childhood development for children from 3 years to 5 years. As a Curro School, our school fees include breakfast and snacks, teacher’s assistants per class, and a slew of cognitive and physical developmental programmes.

What do we offer?

We provide a safe, nurturing environment where children are cared for and engaged in play-based developmental activities. Our classrooms are designed to encourage educational curiosity, while our playgrounds are equipped with play structures that inspire physical development through movement and play. Our small class sizes are divided by age group, which allows our teachers to spend quality time with each child. Our programme is built around learning areas rather than strict milestones, which allows each child to develop at their own pace within reasonable developmental areas.

We focus on early childhood development through the ELDAs

As a Curro School, we incorporate the latest research in physical and cognitive development. Our small class sizes, carefully designed playgrounds, safety measures and daily programmes make our preschool a safe and fun-filled home away from home. Our internally developed programme is designed with the Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs) in mind. This approach to early childhood development aims to stimulate physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being through developmental activities and engaging play areas. ELDAs focus on aspects such as gross motor development, fine motor development, social awareness, communication, spatial awareness and arts.

We encourage loose-parts play

The development of curiosity and imagination in early childhood is vitally important to the development of problem-solving skills and critical thinking later on. Therefore, as a Curro School, we encourage playing with loose-parts and multi-purpose playthings, rather than single-purpose toys that don’t involve much imagination. Through loose-parts play, children in our small class sizes, use their natural curiosity to explore previously undiscovered fascinations such as stacking, rolling, sliding, fitting, colours, and more. The play things used in loose-parts play are all included in our Curro school fees.

Curro Douglasdale activities

At Curro Douglasdale, we believe that participation in extramural activities plays an important role in promoting social skills, self-confidence, and physical well-being. Our daily programme is packed with a variety of physical and cognitive activities where children play while they learn, which are included in our school fees. Extramural activities are offered as additional opportunities to strengthen focused areas or hone certain skills. Our extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches at an additional cost and take place on the school’s premises.
