Curro Brackenfell has a primary school in Sonkring, the suburban heart of Brackenfell. We provide the excellent Curro education to learners from Grade R to Grade 6. We limit our class sizes to make sure learners get personal attention, and they also benefit from having Robotics as a subject, which is highly specialised at our school. Teaching takes place in English and Afrikaans in separate classes and we have an aftercare service.

You get the excellent Curro education
We are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. That is why our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach helps learners use their intellectual abilities to explore the learning material in a manner that makes it real to them somehow. This happens through research, experiments and assignments along with regular teaching methods.
Our school has a strong performance record in the field of robotics, as we have an extensive Robotics programme as a subject in our curriculum. The programme starts by introducing learners to the reality of on-screen activity having tangible results, and then start building up to programming and coding of a small, robot-like vehicle. We also have a VR system that is fully integrated in our teaching and learning methods (for relevant subjects).
As part of the Curro school group, learners enjoy preference when applying to us from any school in the group. Nearby preschools whose children can easily progress to us, include Curro Durbanville and Curro Academy Sandown, with Curro Century City a bit further away. Our learners also enjoy preference when applying to any of these schools in high school, as well as to Curro Uitzicht which follows a more specialised approach in assisted learning.
What happens in Grade R to Grade 6
Our foundation phase starts by helping Grade R learners get ready for the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. In this phase, they learn the basic foundations on which all further learning is based:
In the intermediate phase, the work becomes less tangible or real, and more abstract. To do this, learners start with project-based learning, which means they do research, assignments, and experiments to explore the material outside just the textbook.
Activities your child can enjoy
One part of the excellent Curro education, is that academics are balanced with sports and cultural activities. Participation in activities promote team-awareness, collaboration, and self-confidence. Our focused variety of activities, such as choir and cycling, are tailored to the interests of learners in our area. Your child is sure to find something that will pique their interest.
Strong focus on music
Our acclaimed music department has seen both our junior and senior choirs win several eisteddfods over the years! We even won the 2022 Sing in Harmonie competition on kykNET (and the 2019 competition before that) – an astonishing accomplishment for a school that has had a choir for only a few years. Learners in Grade R and Grade 1 further benefit from music-enrichment classes, which carry great benefits for cognitive, physical and musical talent development.
