Curro Bankenveld has a high school phase in Bankenveld, Emalahleni, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the IEB examinations at the end of Grade 12. With small class sizes, dedicated teachers, and an enhanced curriculum, we empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into high-performing, self-confident individuals who are ready to become the leaders of the future.
Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9
In these grades, we guide learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. With dedicated teachers and affordable school fees, our enhanced approach places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking. Teaching in our small class sizes takes place in English or Afrikaans, and learners gain 21st-century skills in subjects such as Economic and Management Sciences.
As a Curro School, our learners also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9.
FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12
This phase prepares learners for the IEB examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examinations-driven approach. Our learners are taught to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives – all highly-valued 21st-century skills. Furthermore, 21st-century learning is implemented in subjects such as Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD), Business Studies and Visual Arts. Our learners also use tablets in class rather than textbooks for certain subjects or as an additional learning tool.
We use tablets in class
As a Curro School, our high school learners may use tablets in class rather than textbooks. By exposing learners in our small class sizes to the daily use of technology, they are better prepared for the challenges of tertiary studies, as well as the ever-changing workplace of the future.

A wider subject choice
High school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit. Find out which subjects are available, and gain more information about this personalised learning experience.
Curro Bankenveld activities
As a Curro School, we believe that participation in sports and cultural activities plays an important role in developing a well-rounded learner and promoting friendship, team-awareness and self-confidence. Therefore, our wide range of activities is designed to help learners discover their inherent talents, or broaden their exposure beyond their current reference framework.
Activities such as chess develop thinking patterns and other skills that extend to subjects such as Mathematics. Cultural activities such as public speaking and debating provide learners with confidence, and helps to develop the ability to present their thoughts in front of a crowd.
Extramural activities are offered by private tutors or coaches and generally take place on the school premises at an additional cost. Some extramural activities are aimed at improving or supporting academic learning or mental and physical development, while others are purely recreational.
We offer two Curro Create programmes aimed at helping learners develop their creative talents to their full potential: Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents. Learners can also participate in the annual Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival, for which schools enter a one-act play in any genre and official language. The winning plays are chosen through a series of adjudications by world-class theatre-makers, who closely mentor learners throughout the process.
Community outreach programmes
At Curro Bankenveld, we believe that community outreach programmes are important not only to benefit the community, but also to develop appreciation and empathy in our learners. Therefore, we host various community outreach programmes during the year and learners are actively involved in all areas of the project.
In addition to donation drives, our learners offer physical help to causes, such as painting, spending time with individuals, or offering other assistance. We particularly support Mandela Day, Casual Day and CANSA drives.
Curro Alumni aims to reconnect former matriculants with one another and keep them updated on developments within the Curro family. By treasuring our past, we can build our future together. We hope to build a meaningful and personal connection with our members by sharing their success stories and staying updated on their lives through social media.
Alumni members enjoy several benefits, including exclusive offers for their children at selected schools. View Curro Alumni’s website for more information.
