Curro Academy Sandown has a high school phase in Sandown, Cape Town, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 11, with Grade 12 in 2023. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations at the end of Grade 12. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge through subjects such as Robotics. We aim to provide the most affordable school fees possible without compromising our academic standards.
Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9
In these grades, we guide learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. With dedicated teachers and affordable school fees, our approach places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking. Teaching takes place in English, and learners develop 21st-century skills through our approach to subjects such as Robotics and Information Technology. As part of our commitment to affordable school fees, our learners also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9.
FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12
This phase prepares learners in our small class sizes for the NSC examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Our learners are taught 21st-century skills by learning to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to be valued members of the community. At our Curro Academy school, learners further benefit from our enhanced curriculum through subjects such as Visual Arts and Physical Sciences.

A wider subject choice
High school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit. What is meant by an enhanced curriculum?
As a Curro Academy school, we are committed to providing learners with an excellent education. Therefore, our approach to teaching the national CAPS curriculum is based on project-based learning and self-discovery. This approach allows our learners to interact with the learned material or discover the core concepts themselves. Regular assessments and tests still take place, but we focus on ensuring that learners can use their intellectual abilities to discover the material and make it real to them in some way. This further provides them with 21st-century skills such as problem-solving, research, and self-initiated proactive action. In addition, subjects such as Technology often include additional specialised learning concepts such as 3D printing and Robotics.
Curro Academy Sandown activities
We believe that participation in activities plays an important role in promoting health, discipline, self-confidence and community. Therefore, our focused activities are designed to help learners discover their inherent talents, or to broaden their exposure beyond their current reference framework. Some of our activities are aimed at boosting learners’ cognitive abilities, while others provide pure enjoyment.
We offer Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) as part of the Curro Create initiative. CAS is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents.
