Curro Academy Pretoria High School

Curro Academy Pretoria is an independent school in East Lynne, Pretoria, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. Our enhanced curriculum empowers learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into self-confident individuals and to reach their personal, educational and eventual workplace goals – our learners even use tablets in class rather than textbooks. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations at the end of Grade 12. As a Curro Academy school, we aim to provide the most affordable school fees possible without compromising our academic standards.

Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9

In these grades, we guide learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. With dedicated teachers and affordable school fees, our enhanced curriculum approach places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking. Teaching takes place in English, and learners develop 21st-century skills through our approach to subjects such as Natural Sciences and Technology. As part of our commitment to affordable school fees, our learners also receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9, and have Afrikaans and Sepedi as additional language options.

FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12

This phase prepares learners for the NSC examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Our learners are taught 21st-century skills by learning to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to be valued members of the community. Learners further benefit from our enhanced curriculum by having Afrikaans and Sepedi as additional language options, and 21st-century learning is implemented in subjects such as Physical Sciences and Geography.

We use tablets in class

As a Curro Academy school, our high school learners use tablets in class rather than textbooks, for subjects in which e-books are available. This allows our teachers to provide learners with additional information or exercises at the touch of a button and prepares them for the workplace of the future.

A wider subject choice

High school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit. Curro Academy Pretoria activities

Community outreach

At Curro Academy Pretoria we believe that outreach programmes are important not only to benefit the community, but also to develop appreciation and empathy in our learners. Therefore, we host various ad hoc outreach programmes during the year and learners are actively involved in all areas of the project.

School activities

We believe that participation in sports and cultural activities plays an important role in promoting health, discipline, self-confidence and community. Therefore, our focused activities are designed to help learners discover their inherent talents, or to broaden their exposure beyond their current reference framework. While sports and cultural activities are included in the school fees, extramural activities are offered by private tutors or coaches at an additional cost. As a Curro Academy school, some of our activities are aimed at boosting learners’ cognitive abilities, while others provide pure enjoyment. We also offer value-added programmes as part of the school fees. These include character-building programmes, career guidance and entrepreneurship skills.
