Curro unveils it's new mega high school campus
17 January 2022Curro, the leading independent school network in South Africa has recently unveiled its new “mega” high school campus in Cape Town.
The latest addition to its repertoire of schools will offer students a new 9800 square metre campus in Durbanville, which will have the ability to accommodate around 1000 learners, with room for expansion, reports Business Tech.
A few incredible features that the new campus will include is a 360-seater auditorium designed for performing arts. A dance studio, drama studio, and six music rooms will also be attached to this section.
For students who are eager to flex their sporting skills, a sports facility that includes a 400-metre athletics track, six hard tennis courts, four netball courts, an astroturf hockey field, a cricket oval with nets, and a rugby field will be available.
The design for the project was born out of inspiration from schools around the world, with some inspo taken from southern Africa too. Additionally, the school is looking to promote sustainability with features that include the school’s reduction in its energy footprint through rainwater harvesting.
“After 24 years, Curro has grown to become a mature and established brand, yet our approach to education constantly evolves, keeping us at the forefront of educational developments,” said Riaan Stroebel, head of High School at Curro Durbanville.
Curro also took inspiration from students and teachers who offered their thoughts on what they’d prefer when looking for the ideal school.
“In an effort to keep Curro Durbanville at the forefront of educational developments, we asked learners and teachers what their vision of an ideal school was before approaching the architects, and then shared that feedback with the architect team. This approach has ensured that our learners were truly at the centre of the new campus design.”
