Curro Academy Wilgeheuwel Matric 2023

You had a bear celebrity with a special bear identity, who helped you forget your worries and your strife. Matric is like a rollercoaster ride – often stressful, but with loads of chances to make lasting memories.

Your school's trusty teddy bear buddy was right there, sharing in the experience, and so were your executive head and class leaders … let’s hear from them!

Executive Head: Oriol Morgan

The Class of 2023 has proven itself to be a standout group. These learners have risen above every challenge they’ve faced. As I’ve gotten to know some of these learners’ individual stories, I have been inspired by their resilience and indomitable spirits. As they leave the nest, I am excited to see what they will achieve out there.

Head boy: Liam Buthane

The matric experience has undoubtedly been an unforgettable one. A year filled to the brim with expectation … and it delivered on each one. A true roller-coaster of emotions, from the excitement of the glamorous matric dance to the nerves of starting finals. We have endured all of it together.

We sit here with tears in our eyes as the curtains are drawn on our final year of school. We leave behind the four walls of our school but take with us all the memories we have created and the unbreakable bonds we have formed. As this chapter comes to a close, we leave it with heavy hearts but a hopeful expectation of what lies on the other side; the auspicious opportunity that awaits us.

In the words of Dr Seuss: ‘Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened’.

Head girl: Simphiwe Sakala

The matric experience was indeed a memorable journey, filled with shared moments and personal growth. It was a testament to the bonds formed and the knowledge gained throughout this transformative voyage. The first hesitant steps into the school corridors to the final triumphant stride across the graduation stage, we experienced the highs and lows of this transformative voyage together.

Those late-night study sessions, filled with laughter and tears, are etched in our hearts, together with the realisation that all the hard work will pay off at the end. The moments of collective triumph when we aced exams or rallied to showcase our Wilgie spirit on the sports field will forever be remembered.

As a collective, we didn't just absorb facts; we imbibed life lessons. We learnt about empathy, resilience, and the beauty of diverse perspectives. Our shared experiences moulded us into more compassionate and understanding individuals.

Now, as we look back, nostalgia washes over us. The matriculation experience was more than a chapter in our lives; it was a shared odyssey that has left us with enduring friendships and a treasure trove of memories that continue to shape our paths.
