As part of our commitment to ensuring affordable school fees to our learners without compromising our academic standards, Curro has a number of different school scholarship options available to help learners gain a high-quality education.

Ruta Sechaba Foundation scholarship

The Ruta Sechaba Foundation is a non-profit organisation established in 2016 that provides school scholarships, bursaries, and awards to qualifying learners at any participating Curro school with the aim of educating the nation. To date, the scholarship has helped many learners achieve their dream of working towards a bright future. Over 100 learners have completed Grade 12 since 2016, with 90% receiving university exemption.

The scholarship applies to black South African citizens in high school who meet specific academic and financial criteria. The goal is to provide learners with a head start in life by granting them the opportunity to gain a holistic education that prepares them for school examinations as well as skills and knowledge needed for life beyond the classroom.

This scholarship covers the following:

  • School fees only for the learner’s entire school journey (pending annual review of academic results).
  • A scholarship of 50% to 100% of school fees, depending on the learner’s academic performance.

The criteria for this scholarship are as follows:

  • Learners must be South African citizens and should be African, Coloured, or Indian as defined by the B-BBEE Act.
  • Learners must be in high school for the year applied.
  • An average of 65% or more for overall academic performance, as well as in Mathematics and English.
  • Monthly household income of no more than R38 000.
  • Learners need to maintain or improve on their academic marks to ensure that they retain the scholarship for the next academic year.

Due to limited resources, the fund will not be considering any new applications for the 2022 academic year. In the meantime, enquiries regarding the renewal of existing scholarships can be sent to info@ruta.co.za.
