Foundation phase: Grade R to Grade 3
Grade R is the bridge from the tangible world to the world of symbols and numbers in Grade 1. Therefore, we focus on an integrated play-based programme that aims to develop the children’s phonological, literacy, mathematical, and creative problem-solving skills in a fun way.
In Grade 1 to Grade 3 we focus on teaching the basic skills, concepts and knowledge required for further learning. We offer a vibrant, invitational atmosphere where learners enjoy coming to school and where they acquire a love for learning that will sustain them throughout their school years. The three main learning areas are language, mathematics and life skills that include creative arts and physical education.
While we create opportunities for personal growth, we emphasise independence and responsibility above competition.
Intermediate phase (Grade 4 to Grade 6) and Grade 7
In these grades, the emphasis is still on establishing basic foundations, but learners are led into more abstract thought and independent work. We prepare them for high school by teaching them how to apply the skills and concepts they have learned. We also promote creativity and critical thinking by encouraging them to make their own choices within well-established boundaries.
As a Curro-managed school, learners from Grade 6 use e-learning devices (tablets) rather than textbooks for specific subjects. Using innovative technology allows teachers to provide a wealth of information at the touch of a button and better prepares learners for the workplace of the future.
Although teaching takes place in English, isiXhosa is offered as an additional language option from Grade 7.
