Sports activities

At Curro Mossel Bay, we believe that sport plays an important role in promoting friendship, team-awareness and self-confidence in addition to physical well-being. Therefore, we offer a variety of sports activities. While healthy competition (against one another and nearby schools) is encouraged, the enjoyment of the game is not compromised.

Activities such as chess further help to stimulate thinking patterns such as logical analysis and problem-solving, which help to improve aptitude in subjects such as Mathematics.

Cultural activities

Culture is one of the foundational pillars of developing a well-balanced learner and plays a great role in building community. Our learners have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of cultural activities, regardless of their interests and abilities in sport or academics.

These activities introduce learners to valuable experiences and real-life skills that few other platforms allow. Participation in eisteddfods and public speaking, for example, provides learners with self-confidence and presentation skills that will benefit them well into their professional lives.

With carefully selected teachers and coaches, we go to great lengths to ensure that each learner is stimulated in their areas of interests. Our music department, for example, instructs learners in various instruments. The junior and senior marimba bands literally make the feet tap with their quirky numbers and they play at many events in and out of town.

The local community is also invited to our annual ‘Night of a Thousand Arts’ evening where all learners' artworks are exhibited. All our learners are encouraged to participate in this exciting event each year. The annual Mossel Bay eisteddfod is also all held at our school.

Clubs and societies

Curro Mossel Bay also has several clubs and societies, such as the outdoor club, that allow learners with similar interests to build relationships and collaborate in various projects.

Curro Create

We also offer two Curro Create programmes aimed at helping learners develop their creative talents to their full potential. Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents.

Learners have the opportunity to participate in the annual Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival, wherein schools enter a one-act play in any genre and official language. The winning plays are chosen through a series of adjudications by world-class theatre-makers, who closely mentor learners throughout the process.

Read more on CAS and other Curro Create initiatives on their webpage, or visit their Facebook and Instagram pages for videos and photos of past performances.

Extramural activities

Extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches. They are offered at an additional cost and generally take place on the school’s premises. Some extramural activities are aimed at improving or supporting academic learning or mental and physical development, while others are purely recreational. As Mossel Bay is close to many esteemed golf clubs and courses, extramural activities even include golf.
