At St Dominics Newcastle, a Curro Select school, learners have a wide variety of activities from which to choose. From school sports and Curro Create programmes, to value-added programmes, our learners can gain 21st-century skills in nearly any field they choose.
As a Curro Select school, we believe that participation in school sports and cultural activities plays an important role in promoting health, team-awareness, discipline and self-confidence in addition to physical and social well-being. As our school has a strong school sports performance record, we offer a wide variety of activities, including specialised activities such as open-water swimming as well as a robotics club (a value-added programme in the intermediate phase) to develop 21st-century skills.
We have an outdoor pursuit club
As part of our sports activities we have an outdoor pursuit club that includes activities such as mountain biking, arctic seal, cycling and trail running.
See which activities we offer on our fact sheet (see Downloads).
We also offer value-added programmes as part of the school fees. As part of our ‘educating for life’ policy, we organise regular outings to places of interest in order to broaden the learner’s view of the world around them and the Grade 7 leadership camp is conducted at the beginning of each year to prepare them for their mentorship duties.
Value-added programmes offered at St Dominics Newcastle can be viewed on our fact sheet (see Downloads).
We offer Curro Create programmes aimed at helping learners develop their 21st-century skills and creative talents to their full potential. Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents. As a Curro Select school learners can also participate in the annual Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival, for which schools enter a one-act play in any genre and official language. The winning plays are chosen through a series of adjudications by world-class theatre-makers, who closely mentor learners throughout the process.
