Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary is an independent nursery school in Sharonlea, Randburg, that provides high-quality early childhood development for children from 3 months to 5 years, with a focus on the ELDAs. As a Curro Select school, our small class sizes allow dedicated teachers to engage each child in our internally developed play-based curriculum and to build strong, caring relationships with each child, at affordable school fees.
Our school is affiliated with Northriding College, which is another Curro Select school specialising in early childhood development.
What does Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary offer?
At Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary, we provide a safe, nurturing environment where children are cared for and engaged in play-based activities with a focus on early childhood development. Our classrooms are designed to encourage educational curiosity, while our playgrounds are equipped with play structures that inspire physical development through movement and play. Our childcare centre accommodates children up to 3 years, while the pre-primary phase accommodates learners up to 5 years. With small class sizes, age-appropriate playgrounds, and healthy meals and snacks, we focus on developing the child as a whole, all at affordable school fees.
How does Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary support my child’s development?
As a Curro Select school, our internally developed nursery school programme is designed with the Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs) in mind and aims to stimulate physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being through developmental activities and engaging play areas. ELDAs focus on aspects such as gross motor development, fine-motor development, social awareness, communication, spatial awareness and arts. As part of our affordable school fees, children also benefit from music as part of the daily activities.
We encourage loose-parts play
The stimulation of curiosity and imagination is key for early childhood development and vitally important for the development of problem-solving skills and critical thinking later on. Therefore, we encourage playing with loose-parts and multi-purpose playthings, rather than single-purpose toys that don’t involve much imagination. Through loose-parts play in small class sizes, children use their natural curiosity to explore previously undiscovered fascinations such as stacking, rolling, sliding, fitting, colours, and more.

Grade R
Our nursery school is affiliated with nearby Northriding College and our children often progress to attend Northriding College from Grade R onwards.
Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary activities
As a Curro Select school, we believe that participation in extramural activities plays an important role in promoting social skills, self-confidence, and physical well-being. Extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches at an additional cost and generally take place on the school’s premises. At Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary, we also believe that swimming is a valuable life skill for all children. Therefore, we have partnered with MySwim to offer swimming as an extramural activity. Children are transported to their facilities once a week for a swimming lesson.
