Meridian Newcastle primary school is an independent Meridian school in Madadeni, Newcastle, that offers high-quality education for learners from Grade 1 to Grade 7. With controlled class sizes, dedicated teachers and focused sports and cultural activities, we try to ensure affordable school fees without compromising our academic standards, 21st-century skills or our enhanced curriculum.
We accommodate Grade 7 learners in our high-school building to introduce them to their new environment and more intense workload. However, as Grade 7 is generally considered as part of primary school, we provide the information for the grade here.
As a Meridian school, our school is managed by Curro as part of a joint venture with Old Mutual and the Public Investment Corporation.
Foundation phase: Grade RR to Grade 3
With dedicated teachers and affordable school fees, our foundation phase starts by providing the emotional and intellectual foundation required to handle the formal learning that starts in Grade 1. Through our enhanced curriculum, we then gradually develop learners’ 21st-century skills and knowledge in basic areas such as language (comprehension, speaking and listening), mathematics (counting and understanding numbers), and creative problem-solving, in an environment where they enjoy coming to school.
Intermediate phase: Grade 4 to Grade 7
In these grades, learners are taught to work with the learned material in an abstract manner. The nature of the content gradually builds from being tangible and real to more intellectual and abstract. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum provide learners with an inherent dedication to hard work and excellence, as well as 21st-century skills to prepare them for the workplace of the future.
As a Meridian school managed by Curro, teaching takes place in English, while isiZulu and Afrikaans are offered as additional language options for all learners in the primary school.

Meridian Newcastle activities
At Meridian Newcastle, we believe that participation in activities plays an important role in promoting health, discipline, self-confidence and community. Therefore, our focused activities are designed to help learners discover their inherent talents, or broaden their exposure beyond their current reference framework. While sports activities are generally included in the affordable school fees, extramural activities are offered by private tutors/coaches at an additional cost.
We offer Curro Create programmes
We offer Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) as part of the Curro Create initiative. CAS is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents.
