As a Curro School, we believe that sports play an important role in promoting friendship, team-awareness and self-confidence, in addition to physical well-being. While healthy competition is encouraged, the enjoyment of the game is not compromised. We support our learners’ ambitions by selecting experienced coaches and having a fully-equipped gym on campus. We are one of the schools that offer Curro Tennis, which is a specialised tennis offering aimed at providing superior training to athletes. Learners benefit from experienced coaches, regular training and workshops, and even tournaments against international teams.
At Curro Hillcrest, culture is one of the foundational pillars of developing a well-balanced learner. Our learners have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of cultural activities, regardless of their interests and abilities. Some of our specialised activities include photography club, a cappella choir and Toastmasters.
We offer two Curro Create programmes aimed at helping learners develop their creative talents to their full potential: Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents. Learners can also participate in the annual Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival, wherein schools enter a one-act play in any genre and official language. The winning plays are chosen through a series of adjudications by world-class theatre-makers, who closely mentor learners throughout the process.
As a Curro School, extramural activities are offered by external tutors or coaches. These are offered at an additional cost and generally take place on the school’s premises. Some extramural activities are aimed at improving or supporting academic learning or mental and physical development, while others are purely recreational.
Adventure Out There programme
At Curro Hillcrest, we believe it’s important for learners to spend time outdoors. Therefore, our Adventure Out There programme offers environmental awareness and fun-filled outdoor exercise through sleep-out excursions. Activities include camping, rope work, fire safety, scuba diving, and more. These excursions also include formal environmental studies, which add practical experience to the syllabus topics. Therefore, these costs are included in the school fees.
Our community programmes
As part of our Christian values (ethics and morals), we believe that outreach programmes are important not only to benefit the community, but also to develop appreciation and empathy in our learners. Therefore, we host various outreach programmes during the year and learners are actively involved in all areas of the project.
Some of our initiatives include:
- continued donation drives delivered to underprivileged schools at the end of the year;
- Winter Warmth campaign to donate warm items to those in need;
- SMILE literacy programme, where our learners tutor Grade 5 learners at a local school; and
- Hearts to Hand initiative, where grades select rural schools to visit quarterly and interact with learners, donate essential items, and help the school in other ways.
