At Curro Hazeldean, we pride ourselves on providing learners with a well-rounded education that stretches beyond the classroom. That’s why we offer a wide variety of sports and cultural activities that range from fun and recreational, to competitive and specialised (such as Curro Create and Curro Tennis). While healthy competition is encouraged in all our activities, we take care to not compromise the enjoyment of the game and good sportsmanship.
As a Curro School, we believe that sport plays an important role in promoting friendship, team-awareness and self-confidence in addition to physical well-being. Therefore, we offer a variety of sports activities that include specialised activities such as equestrian and mountain biking.
Culture is one of the pillars on which our school’s identity was built. Our learners have the opportunity to participate in several cultural activities, regardless of their interests and abilities in sport or academics. Furthermore, cultural activities such as orators and drama expose learners to aspects of personal development that few other areas of learning could do – these include 21st-century skills such as presentation skills, proper thought articulation, and self-confidence.
We offer two Curro Create programmes aimed at helping learners develop their creative talents to their full potential: Curro Arts Superhero (CAS) is an internal creative mentorship platform with a grading element, where learners are encouraged to discover, develop and display their inherent creative talents. Learners can also participate in the annual Curro Create National Youth Theatre Festival, wherein schools enter a one-act play in any genre and official language. The winning plays are chosen through a series of adjudications by world-class theatre-makers, who closely mentor learners throughout the process.
We are one of the schools that offer Curro Tennis, which is a specialised tennis offering aimed at providing superior training to athletes. Learners at our Curro School benefit from well-experienced coaches, regular training and workshops, and even tournaments against international teams.
Community outreach programmes
At Curro Hazeldean, we believe that outreach programmes are important not only to benefit the community, but also to develop appreciation and empathy in our learners. Therefore, we host various outreach programmes during the year and learners are actively involved in all areas of the project. In addition, we continuously support Eleos (Mercy in Action), the Danville Hulpprojek, Kungwini Welfare Organisation (Paul Jungnickle Home), Vastfontein Childcare Village, and Boschkop Primary Farm School.
