Curro Academy Soshanguve High School

Academics

Curro Academy Soshanguve is an independent school in Soshanguve, Pretoria, that provides high-quality education for learners from Grade 8 to Grade 12. Our dedicated teachers and well-rounded approach prepare learners for the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations at the end of Grade 12. Our limited class sizes and enhanced curriculum empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge – our learners may even use tablets in class rather than textbooksWe aim to provide the most affordable school fees possible without compromising our academic standards.

Senior phase: Grade 8 and Grade 9

In these grades, we guide learners to adjust to a greater workload of higher intensity. With dedicated teachers and affordable school fees, our enhanced curriculum approach places great emphasis on problem-solving and individual thinking. At our Curro Academy school, teaching takes place in English, and learners develop 21st-century skills through our approach to subjects such as Computer Literacy and Natural Sciences. Our learners further receive guidance when choosing their elective subjects at the end of Grade 9.

FET phase: Grade 10 to Grade 12

This phase prepares learners in our limited class sizes for the NSC examinations written at the end of Grade 12. However, we emphasise a greater world-readiness rather than a purely examination-driven approach. Our learners are taught 21st-century skills by learning to think innovatively, express their ideas and take charge of their own lives to be valued members of the community. Learners further benefit from our enhanced curriculum by having Setswana as an additional language option, and 21st-century learning is implemented in subjects such as Geography and Physical sciences.

We use tablets in class

High school learners may choose to use tablets in class rather than textbooks, which further prepares them for the workplace of the future. This allows teachers in our small class sizes to provide learners with additional information or exercises at the touch of a button.

Additional subjects online

High-school learners can now extend their subject choices beyond what is offered at our school. Learners can choose from a wide range of subjects, and classes will take place during the school day in the form of live lessons with teachers. These subjects can be seen as an extension of our enhanced curriculum from which our learners already benefit. Curro Academy Soshanguve activities

Sports activities

As a Curro Academy school, we believe that sport plays in important role in promoting friendship, team-awareness and self-confidence in addition to physical well-being. Therefore, we offer a variety of sports activities. While healthy competition is encouraged, the enjoyment of the game is not compromised. Activities such as chess further help to stimulate thinking patterns such as logical analysis and problem-solving, which help to improve aptitude in subjects such as Mathematics.

Cultural activities

Culture is one of the foundational pillars of developing a well-balanced learner and plays a great role in broadening learners’ reference frameworks. Our learners have the opportunity to participate in several cultural activities, regardless of their interests and abilities in sport or academics. Activities such as debating help to expose learners to language enrichment and thinking patterns that can only be developed through participation, due to the nature of the activity.

Activities offered at our school can be viewed on our fact sheet (see downloads)

Value-added programmes

As a Curro Academy school, we also offer value-added programmes as part of our affordable school fees, that include character-building programmes, career guidance and entrepreneurship skills.

Curro Alumni activities

Curro Alumni aims to reconnect former matriculants with each other and keep them updated on developments within the Curro family. By treasuring our past, we can build our future together. We hope to build a meaningful and personal connection with our members by sharing their success stories and staying updated on their lives through social media.

Alumni members enjoy several benefits, including exclusive offers for their children at selected schools. View Curro Alumni’s website for more information.

Curro Academy Soshanguve community outreach

We believe that outreach programmes are important not only to benefit the community, but also to develop appreciation and empathy in our learners. Therefore, we host various outreach programmes during the year and learners are actively involved in all areas of the project.
