Curro Aurora Alpha Robotics Club, International Participation World Robot Olympiad
Curro Aurora had a Robotics team, Dawn Breaker, represented South-Africa in the recent World Robot Olympiad (WRO) for the first time.
The online competition was from Thursday 18th of November to Sunday the 21st of November. Only 5 teams in South Africa qualified. The task was to build and code a physical robot to compete in two physical challenges and each challenge had to be completed in two minutes. The building and coding started in January and leads up to the competition in November.
This year’s WRO theme was Power Bots, The Future of Energy which focused on the use of sustainable energy to combat climate change.
Team Dawnbreaker, comprising of Sharnley van Heerden, Paige Briggs and Richard du Plessis, represented South Africa in the Regular Senior category, where they had to move LEGO elements on a board while having the robot autonomously decide where the elements must be placed.
The team thoroughly enjoyed the competition and placed 44th in the world out of thousands of teams. Curro Aurora is exceptionally proud of their achievement. Congratulations!
