Learners selected for interprovincial tennis teams

Several up-and-coming tennis players from Bedfordview, Edenvale and Kempton Park were selected to be part of the Gauteng East 2020 Interprovincial Tennis Team.

The team would have represented Gauteng East at the South African Schools Tournament in April, but the tournament was cancelled due to Covid-19.

Before the pandemic, the u-13 team was scheduled to play in Bloemfontein while the u-15 and u-19 teams were scheduled to play in Pretoria.

The u-13 team included Ashton Junior College learners Arron van Eck, Baatile Modise and Sarah Moyo.

Leeuwenhof Akademie learner Christiaan Franken and St Andrew’s School for Girls learner Vanessa Foley were also selected for the u-13 team.

Other team members are Juan Pierre du Plessis from Laerskool Impala, Aidan Blaauw from Laerskool Baanbreker, Taahir Mia from Waterstone College, Hannah Crafford from St Dominic’s, Abigail Wheeler from Waterstone College, Danielle Chapman from Laerskool Selectionpark and home-schooled Sophia Koen.

The u-15 team is made up of Erin McKenzie from Holy Rosary School and Hoërskool Marais Viljoen learners Boitshepo Maake and Jaydan Rooskrantz.

Representing St Dominic’s in the u-15 team is Celeste Matsaudza.

Other team members for the u-15 team are Nkosikhona Ubisi from Thutto High School, Andrzej Lubasinski, who is home-schooled, Zander de Jager from Laerskool Oosterkruin, Stefan Matic from Springs Boys’ High School, Tongase Chilango from Curro Serengeti, Sadie Tolken from Waterstone College, Shazneen Kholvadia from Benoni Muslim School and Angelique Jansen van Vuuren from Hoërskool Dr EG Jansen.

The u-19 team consists of St Andrew’s School for Girls learners Elena Mandic and Cayley Symons, with Karabo Maluleke and Tyrah Cook from Holy Rosary School.

King Edward VII School learners Alistair Dick-Vercammen and Ethan Lee were also selected as part of the u-19 team with Daniele Dimitrov and Chay van Eck from Ashton Senior College.

Other members of the u-19 team are Lyle Thomas from Alberton High School, Lesedi Malapile from Shangri-La Academy, Kgomotso Mabote from Bokamoso Secondary School and Dominique Jansen van Vuuren from EG Jansen.
