Curro’s inter-house athletics meeting brings excitement

Curro Krugersdorp High School hosted its inter-house athletics meeting which served as an opportunity to identify the best athletes for the team that will represent the school at upcoming meetings.

Curro Krugersdorp High School hosted its inter-house athletics meeting on Friday, January 21, inviting all the school’s learners to try their hand at the various events.

This also marked the first year that they could use the new sports grounds to the rear of the school that offer all the facilities for the field events, such as high jump, long jump and shot put, and the track events such as the sprint and relay races.

“We are looking forward to hosting amazing tournaments and events on this beautiful addition to our facilities – four new netball/ tennis courts, a cricket oval, athletics track, and two rugby/ soccer fields that complement our current hockey astro and two netball courts,” said Willem Swanepoel, Head of Sport at the high school.

This inter-house meeting served as an opportunity to identify the best athletes for the team that will represent the school in upcoming meetings, such as the Curro interschools competition.

“We believe that participation in sports plays an important role in promoting team-awareness, self-confidence, friendship and physical well-being. In addition, exposing learners to different types of sports could help to boost their confidence and develop talents that might otherwise have gone undiscovered.”
