Archery comes to Diepsloot
22 November 2021A school in Diepsloot will be hosting archers from Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia in an upcoming African tournament.
The year’s National Archery for Schools Program (NASP) African Tournament will be taking place at Curro Academy Riverside and will see 60 learners from South Africa go against a number of learners from their fellow African countries to become champions between December 11 and 12.
With archery gaining popularity, the school has been investing in their archers. Eighty are currently in development, with both boys and girls showing an interest, and the latter are getting more involved.
With the tournament set to take place at Curro, the school’s archers will not be taking part as they are still in training. However, they will be cheering on their national representatives while international participants will be joining virtually.

Mari-Lene Fourie, executive head at the school, said there is more to archery than it being a physical game as it is also a mental one. “It requires concentration and dedication, and you must be completely aware of your surroundings.
“Having joined the NASP programme in 2021 we are honoured to be the host. Our school is central to most areas in Gauteng and we have the space and facilities to host large events,” she said.
