Full steam ahead with hybrid and online learning at Waterstone College
Waterstone College’s learners are proudly full steam ahead with their academics despite 2021 having started with a wobble. Since last year, the school’s teachers and learners have had access to a set of digital tools to facilitate remote learning while schools remain closed.
Furthermore, with independent schools set to open soon, Waterstone College will resume with its successful hybrid learning model (face-to-face combined with virtual learning), to accommodate parents who need to send their children back to school as well as those who choose to keep their children at home.
“As we attempt to navigate yet another year of the persistent pandemic, our priority as a school remains unchanged: provide our learners with a high-quality education so as not to fall behind in their studies, while ensuring that our learners and staff are kept safe, protected and healthy. Having to live and learn in these times has resulted in having to move our learning online, which has proven to be a great success,” says Jacques Nel, executive head at Waterstone College.
Managed by the JSE-listed independent education provider, Curro Holdings, Waterstone College continues to be a solid education foundation for the local community. “While we are maximising our academic goals online, we are certainly looking forward to having our learners back on campus. Aligned with current legislation, we have further upgraded our Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), having now added an additional tier of risk mitigation to ensure the continued safety of all learners and staff at the school,” adds Nel.
Waterstone College, situated in Kibler Park, offers education to learners aged three months to Grade 12. The school prides itself on providing learners with a balance of academic excellence, sports and cultural well-being, fuelling their growth into well-balanced individuals. On the sports-front, the school boasts an international-standard FIFA-field that was used for training by the Mamelodi Sundowns last year, as well as by the national Mexican team during the 2010 FIFA World Cup. “We may not know what 2021 and Covid-19 have in store for us, but we do know that we can grab the bull by the horns and make this a great year,” concludes Nel.
