Creston College is situated on spacious grounds on the lower South Coast near Port Shepstone, KwaZulu-Natal and provides education for boys and girls from Grade 000 to Grade 12.
The Pre-Primary Curriculum is tailor-made to support children with a range of abilities. Auditory and Visual Perceptual programmes, taught in Grades 000 and 00, ensure the learners are well prepared for their School Readiness year. The Grade 0 (Reception Class/ Grade R) learners follow a stimulating and challenging SCHOOL-READINESS programme. This includes recognising, hearing and writing the phonetic sounds of the alphabet, by means of the ‘Letterland’ system. Strong emphasis is placed on the acquisition of skills in Literacy, Numeracy and Life skills in all the Pre-Primary grades.
In the Junior primary our child-centred thematic approach seeks to develop children who can communicate effectively, solve problems, are confident, can work with others and who will have life skills to meet the challenges that lie ahead. We aim to produce well-rounded /balanced learners. The learners are able to reach their potential and are encouraged to strive towards achieving to the best of their ability in a happy, safe and secure environment.
In the intermediate and senior phase, the emphasis is still on establishing basic foundations, but learners are led into more abstract thought and independent work. Application of skills and concepts is also a focus area in this phase. This phase aims to prepare learners for the senior phase in the high school. We promote creativity and critical thinking by encouraging children to make their own choices within well-established boundaries.
We aim to embrace 21st-century learning by incorporating advanced IT Technology which includes projectors, iPads and robotics. We currently raise children who are ‘digital natives’. By embracing innovative technology into our schools, we are speaking the language our learners understand.
At our College, we take our independence seriously and we are truly committed to providing an environment where children are “coached” in leadership skills. In doing this we believe Creston learners will truly appreciate the value of knowledge, vision and harmony in their own lives and in their country. Creston’s Christian ethos ensures that the values of integrity, self-discipline, independent thinking and respect are part of the fibre of the school and it is within this framework that the academics and co-curricular programs find their shape and form.
