Waterstone College School of Arts offers a variety of activities in different genres which are in addition to the College’s standard educational and cultural programmes,
As a school we feel strongly about the holistic development of a child – body, mind and soul. Involvement in the Arts spans all three of these development areas, as well as developing skills such as responsibility, tenaciousness and teamwork. Of course, there is also the sheer joy of creating something that is mine, be it music, art or dance.
Learners in the School of Arts can use the schools exceptional facilities and specially selected tutors to further their skills.
The music centre was designed to cater for our growing Arts faculty, with space for 17 marimbas and a piano, as well as floor space for drama, dance and movement. Three practice rooms (the Bach Room, the Beethoven Room and the Mozart Room) are equipped with various instruments, including a drum kit and two pianos. Tutors use these rooms for lessons, and children are able to book them for personal practice sessions.
Our experienced teachers coach and prepare the learners for their piano grading exams, done through UNISA, Royal Schools of Music or Trinity Guildhall.
Children are offered individual lessons in recorder where they are given the opportunity to play in an ensemble.
Children are offered individual lessons in guitar – either bass, electric or acoustic. If the children are learning classical guitar, they have an opportunity to do exams through Trinity Guildhall.
Learning to play the drums is a very popular activity at the school of Arts. Although it is a fun instrument to learn, children are also taught how to read music.
